Culture Bully (2005-2012)
In 2005 I founded the music review site CultureBully.com and acted as creative lead and editor until April 2012. The website was named “Best Local Blog” by Minneapolis alt-weeklies City Pages & Vita.mn in 2009, and was featured by numerous prominant websites including the Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, Boing Boing, and Comedy Central. I was also responsible for negotiating advertising for the website, working with such networks as Spin, Indie Click, and BlogAds.
2011: 1.5 million pageviews (Google Analytics)
2010: 2.2 million pageviews (1.5 million unique visitors, Google Analytics)
Top journalistic start-ups of the 2000s

Best local blog.
They push the envelope and get away with it.
Of all the blogs the Twin Cities has to offer—and there are a ton of good ones—none is more professionally executed than the music site Culture Bully… It’s rare to see a homegrown blog blossom into a genuine local treasure, but Culture Bully has done just that.
Culture Bully is the most realized satellite in the local blogosphere. Almost reminiscent of a baby Pitchfork…

This is the type of site that other bloggers look up to. Extremely professional, top of the line music reporting, classy design. They simply have their shit down, there’s really no other way to put it.
