It’s not entirely unusual to stumble across a mashup that you enjoy, despite it featuring a track which you absolutely despised in its original form. I can think of more than a few… actually, the number of Fergie mashups I have on my hard drive is downright embarrassing. But it’s a little more difficult to find a good mashup that combines two songs you don’t particularly care for. Finding three songs you don’t enjoy on their mashed together into something brilliant is even more difficult. And four songs? Forget about it, that’s like finding a unicorn pissing rainbows on February 29. Then comes along Norwegian Recycling, who destroys the entire equation. We’re not talking one or two lousy, overplayed, piece of trash songs; or three, or four for that matter… “Acoustic Alchemy” mashes eight songs that range somewhere on my personal scale between “slightly better than nails on a chalk board” to “worse than getting a rash in an all-too-sensitive area.

Let’s count them down: Green Day’s “Good Riddance,” Jack Johnson’s “Bubble Toes,” Josh Rouse’s “Quiet Town,” Joshua Radin’s “Only You,” Wyclef’s “Sweetest Girl,” Chrisina Aguilera’s “Genie in a Bottle,” Atomic Kitten’s “Eternal Flame” and Black Eyed Peas’ “Don’t Lie.”

How he does it, I don’t know. But just know that despite the odds, it sounds fantastic. Congrats N.R., you’ve done the unthinkable: you’ve mashed eight pieces of audio-rubbish into something fantastic.
