Dan Wilson Critics’ Pick

Published in City Pages, The Blog. Tags: , .

Standing as the premier long-format live interview series in the Twin Cities, the University of Minnesota’s Whole Music Club’s “Making Music” has established itself as a staple in the music scene, consistenly hosting discussions that offer insight into the minds of local and national artists. Now well into its ninth season, “Making Music” follows a celebrated list of artists including Andrew Bird, Atmosphere’s Slug, and Andrew Broder by welcoming the Grammy-winning vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Dan Wilson to the Whole’s intimate setting. Since the late ’80s, Wilson has established himself as one of the preeminent musical voices in the Twin Cities, both through his work as a solo artist as well as with Trip Shakespeare and Semisonic. In 2007 Wilson was recognized with Song of the Year honors at the Grammy Awards, having co-written the Dixie Chicks’ “Not Ready to Make Nice”—but that hasn’t served to distance Wilson from the scene where he began, as he remains a regular at local concerts as both a spectator and a performer. In addition to a live interview, Wilson will also perform. All ages.
