The Ting Tings vs. Franz Ferdinand mashed by DJ Y Alias JY

When the Ting Tings released We Started Nothing last year, the album’s second single immediately jumped out as not simply one of the best tracks from the band, but one of the best tracks we’ve already heard from another group. Allow me to explain…
While not being explicitly called out in the media for its suspiciously familiar guitar lick, people immediately made the connection between the Ting Tings’ “Shut Up and Let Me Go” and Franz Ferdinand’s “Take Me Out.” The songs are just too similar for there not to be any “influence” there, and listeners caught on quickly. And there are countless people who have made the connection, be it bedroom producers creating remixes with the two tracks, or combing music videos from the songs… but if forced to choose the best from those I’ve heard, I’m sticking with DJ Y Alias JY’s version. His track takes instrumental versions of both songs, mashing the vocals accordingly, and tops things off with a dusting of Aretha Franklin just for the hell of it.
